When I got sober on July 11, 2021, I started Sobervation as a simple blog to get my thoughts down on paper and occupy my newly sober mind. Back then, I just needed something positive to focus on. In 2023, I discovered Print-on-Demand through Printful, which allowed me to turn those quiet reflections into physical badges of honor—hats, heavyweight hoodies, and embroidered streetwear designed to celebrate recovery.
If you would have told me in 2023 that putting in the work and sharing my journey would lead to an all-expenses-paid trip across the Atlantic, I never would have believed you.
A few weeks ago, Printful flew me out to their global headquarters in Riga, Latvia to participate in Amplified, their annual event for store owners.
I documented the entire journey—from navigating international customs alone to going behind the scenes in the Printful factory.

From Columbus to Europe: Facing the Travel Nerves
I’ll be honest: I hadn’t traveled internationally by myself before this, so standing at the gate in Columbus, I was terrified. Flying from Columbus to Chicago, then across the ocean to Frankfurt and into Riga was an intense journey.
In recovery, we learn that growth happens right outside our comfort zone. Stepping off the plane in Latvia and seeing historic Old Town Riga—with its ancient brick arches and famous rooster steeples—was a surreal reminder of how big the world gets when you stop shrinking your life.
Inside Printful HQ & The Amplified Stage
Getting to tour Printful’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was a dream for a product nerd like me. I got to inspect their high-speed embroidery machines up close and see the incredible possibilities of unlimited color embroidery.
During the live Amplified event, I was invited into the Green Room to sit down with Michaela and fellow creator Robin to share my origin story. We talked about:
- How Sobervation grew from a personal recovery blog into a full apparel brand.
- Why tactile, heavyweight embroidery feels so premium and meaningful to wear.
- Participating in a live blindfolded product-guessing game where I had to identify everything from distressed dad caps to tote bags purely by feel.
The Big Takeaway: Success Looks Different for Everyone
We also got to dine in an underground medieval castle (Rozengrāls), sample local Latvian dishes, and connect with creators from all over the world.
The biggest thing I took away from this trip is that success looks different for everyone. Whether you're trying to build a massive global brand or simply looking to stay clear-headed and build a creative side hustle, your journey is valid.
Thank you to Printful for the incredible opportunity, and thank you to every single one of you who wears Sobervation gear, reads the blog, or supports the channel.
