A Weekend That Changed Everything
The rainbow drip design on this jacket came from a painting. But not just any painting—this one was made during one of the first weekends I spent with my daughter after being separated for over 11 years.
At that point in my life, I was still drinking. But I knew I needed to show up for her, somehow. After more than a decade apart, I didn’t know what to say or do—I just knew one thing: she loved to paint. So I bought some canvases, picked up acrylic paints, and we spent the weekend throwing colors and laughter onto canvas. It was one of the first times in a long time I felt present—and sober.
That splatter painting didn’t just fill the space on the canvas. It filled a space in me that had been empty for years.
A Milestone in Disguise
I didn’t know it at the time, but that weekend would become a milestone. Looking back, I can see that it was one of the first moments that nudged me toward recovery. It was a reminder that connection is possible. That joy doesn’t have to come from a bottle. That healing begins not in big dramatic moments, but in quiet weekends filled with paint, presence, and second chances.
